Before Buying in Japan

Check the property and the costs

Four questions to ask before buying.

Can I buy?

Property ownership and residence status are separate matters.

More details

Buying a property does not by itself grant permission to live in Japan. Financing conditions depend on the lender and the buyer’s circumstances.

How much will it really cost?

Consider the asking price alongside brokerage, registration, taxes, insurance and financing costs.

More details

For condominiums, check management fees and repair reserve contributions. We will confirm an itemised estimate for the property you choose.

Is the home suitable?

Review the building condition, ownership, management records, hazard information and repair plans.

More details

The rooms, local environment and transport should work for the way you intend to use the property.

What happens after purchase?

Agree the handover conditions, utilities and management arrangements before completion.

More details

Let us know whether you plan to live in the property or hold it as an investment.
